Wireless phoning in the car
For mobile phoning when driving, the handsfree set is regulated by law. But in how many cases do you just forget to put your mobile phone into the holder? When you get an important call you will have difficulties – unless you can comfortably phone wireless with the help of Bluetooth® without taking your mobile phone out of your bag.
In order to phone in your car, you need a mobile phone which is appropriate for Bluetooth® and a corresponding handsfree set. Many modern handsfree sets meanwhile dispose of a Bluetooth® connection, existing ones can be retrofitted with adapters. It is quite simple to phone with Bluetooth®: The mobile phone automatically logs in at the handsfree set as soon as you are in the Bluetooth® range (about 10 m). When driving the mobile phone can be at any place in your car, also in your pocket or in the luggage trunk. For the playback of the conversation you can use the loudspeakers of your car radio, if required and also the comfort function such as the radio muting can be used by the mobile phone via Bluetooth®.
The actually available functions for wireless calling in the car are depending on the Bluetooth® application profiles (see ”What are the capabilities of Bluetooth®“) of the mobile phone and of the handsfree set. Most of the modern mobile phones today are using the “Handsfree Profile” (HFP) for their connection to the handsfree set, some are also still using the Headset Profile (HSP). With the new profiles such as the Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP), the access and synchronization of phone books or sms support will soon be standard functions. Already now, the wireless matching of data (e.g. phone book and lists of calls) between the SIM card of the mobile phone and the handsfree set are already possible. They are based on the SIM Access Profile (SAP) which controls the wireless access to the data on the SIM card in the mobile phone.
Via the SIM Access Profile, a GSM device built-in the car e.g. car phone or a handsfree set with its proper GSM module can also use the access data on the SIM card of the Bluetooth® mobile phone for calling; the inconvenient exchanging of cards is eliminated. A Bluetooth® handsfree set with GSM capability also allows the user of Bluetooth® mobile phones with SIM Access Profile to phone with the complete Bluetooth® comfort via the external vehicle antenna. This way not only the reception quality is being ameliorated and the radiation of the mobile phone in the car is being reduced, but the German driver will also be prevented from problems with the insurance in case of an accident.
Therefore LinTech has developed an innovative procedure to link the Bluetooth® SIM access profile to any GSM module at an affordable price.
